Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to my students, friends and their families.

Please make sure students are reading at least 30 minutes a night. This is the most important thing your child can do to increase comprehension and fluency.

Here are some reading tips:

Adults can read aloud to the student. Children need to hear how we read with inflection (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflection).

Use the 3-5 finger strategy when helping a child choose a book.
Picture Pages:
1. Put up three fingers.
2. Put down a finger for each word you don’t know.
3. If you run out of fingers before you run out of page, this book has too many hard words.
Pages Without Picture:
1. Use all five fingers on your hand.
2. Put down a finger for each word you don’t know.
If you run out of fingers before you run out of page, it’s too hard.

*We also call this the "goldilocks" strategy.

Make reading part of your bedtime routine.

Choose books your student likes...reading should be fun!

Use raz-kids (you may use the school lab or our classroom to log on).

Happy Reading!
