Dear Panther Parents,

Is your student reading 30-45 minutes a night for homework? The most important aspect of 2nd and 3rd grade is reading comprehension. The more they read, the better they get. I am very proud of how well all my students are reading. Please keep in mind you can help by requiring they read silently for 30-45 minutes a night (including weekends). It is equally important that they hear you read. Take the time to read chapter books to your student. Attached is a list of great chapter books for their age/level.
I am requesting that students bring 3+ hard boiled eggs next week for us to dye in Meredyth’s room. Directions on the easiest way to cook hard-boiled eggs is below.
There is a bake-off contest Wednesday in Cheryl’s room. Students who wish to bake something may do so and turn in to her on Wednesday, April 4. Check the Pawprint for more details.

Appreciations:
Thank you Torrey and Helen for volunteering regularly.
Thank you Helen for classroom supplies.
Thank you Delina for supplies and scheduling our art day with activities.
Thank you Delina and Toni for selling treats for the Room 6 field trip fund.
Thank you Briann for bringing in sweet treats for the students.

How to Make Hard-Boiled Eggs:
1. Place eggs in single layer in saucepan.
2. Cover with at least one inch of cold water over tops of shells.
3. Cover pot with lid and bring to a boil over medium heat.
4. As soon as the water comes to a full boil, remove from heat and let stand.
5. Large soft-cooked eggs: let stand in hot water 1 to 4 minutes, depending on your tastes.
6. Large hard-cooked eggs: let stand in hot water 15 to 17 minutes.
7. When cooked to desired level, drain off hot water.
8. Immediately cover with cold water and add a few ice cubes.
9. Soft-cooked eggs: let stand in cold water until cool enough to handle. Serve.
10. Hard-cooked eggs: let stand in cold water until completely cooled. Use as needed.
11. • Never boil eggs. It makes them rubbery.
12. • Use older eggs. Fresh ones won't peel properly.

Here are great books recommended for your student

Dear Panther Parents,

We had a fantastic trip to the Mad River Fish Hatchery! We learned all about the trout and salmon life cycle and how the men there spawn the fish to increase the river population. Please ask your student about our trip so they can explain what they learned.

There are auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre for the play King Arthur's Quest on Monday afternoon (March 12th). I encourage all students to audition. Keep in mind you must be willing to stay for the late rehearsals every day of the week. The rehearsals go until 8:15 every evening. If you can not audition I hope to see you at the performance Friday night (March 16th). Try to coordinate with other parents, this will save you driving time.

On Friday March 16th we will be having a second/third grade bake sale to raise funds for our class from 10am-2pm. Missy has been generous enough to help us with baking and organizing this event. I would appreciate if all families could donate 1-2 baked goods. Call me or Missy with any questions.

Rebecca
